Founded in 1975 and known as a “Santa Monica Treasure” the Santa Monica History Museum collects and preserves the history, art, and culture of the Santa Monica Bay Area. 16. INDIANAPOLIS MUSEUM OF ART
In 1883, an exhibition of 453 works opened as the first exhibition organized by the Art Association of Indianapolis. The success of that exhibition established the Art Association in the local cultural scene and led to more exhibitions, as well as lectures and eventually a campus featuring a museum and art school. The Art Association of Indianapolis changed its name to the Indianapolis Museum of Art in 1969, and the organization has evolved into the fifth largest encyclopedic art museum in the country.
