Turn It Up For Change with W Hotels
GOOD TIMES AT DAVEY WAYNE’S
...is a ’70s-themed bar – think your parents’ house circa the decade but with killer cocktails. Run by Jonnie and Mark Houston, this bar (entered through a fridge door) is a trailblazer in the LA bar scene. Don’t miss out on rooftop roller-skating every Friday and Saturday.
...is a seriously playful bar with an overabundance of pinball and video games from the ’70s to the ’90s. In throwback fashion, each game costs between 25 and 50 cents and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you’re after a bite, drop by the local food trucks parked in back.
MOODS OF NORWAY
...is a colorful boutique on Melrose Ave selling its own line of Norwegian unisex and kids clothing. Shop the rails, and if you’re after a snack, they’ll serve you chicken and champagne.
BUTCHERS & BARBERS
...for bistro fare. Located right on Hollywood Boulevard, its sidewalk is lined with stars that belie the restaurant’s unfussy menu of rehashed classics: think roasted cauliflower (it’s all about cauliflower in LA) with brown butter and feta, pork chops with plum and pine nut gremolata and mussels marinated in white beer, crème fraîche and habanero.
Nestled in the newly developed arts district, CLEVELAND ART is one of the best antique shops around. Featuring everything from motorcycles to chandeliers, it offers obvious treasures and some diamonds in the rough. Beeline to the back right (next to the open garage door) for some hidden gems.
