Travel has played a large part in my life since I was little. My family lived overseas in London when I was 9-11 years old and it is safe to say I caught a case of wanderlust early. Today, as the blogger behind wit & whimsy and as an independent PR consultant, I’m lucky to be able to spend a good part of each year on the road.
With that, I’ve also learned the benefit of packing the essentials and finally learned to avoid overpacking. With a fall full of travel ahead (I’m heading to Ireland, Florida, Montreal and Arizona in the coming months), I’m excited to share my packing essentials for fall travel.
In-flight I have a few essentials I can’t live without. One is an eye mask which is particularly great for red-eyes and the other is my Bose noise-cancelling headphones. Using the two combined ensures I can arrive in my location well rested. I also always am sure to have plenty of podcast episodes downloaded and books ready on my iPad for longer flights.
One of my best-kept travel secrets is a travel size bottle of Downy Wrinkle Releaser. In the fall I wear a lot of cashmere and silk which both tend to wrinkle in a suitcase so I rely on this to smooth out my clothes and be able to avoid ironing. It’s a miracle worker!
For trips this time of year my clothes are all about modern yet classic staples that are comfortable and can be dressed up or dressed down. I tote a leather jacket everywhere as it can just as easily be worn over a feminine dress as it can be paired with with jeans and my favorite fall shoe for travel, the Everlane modern loafer.
My makeup and toiletries get packed away in chic travel cases (the large one I put in my suitcase and the smaller I fill with essentials I want on hand such as eye drops, Advil, lip balm and blotting sheets.) I’m also a big fan of the brand Stowaway Cosmetics for perfectly pint-sized travel cosmetics.
As you prepare for upcoming fall travel, remember to focus on packing the essentials and pieces that make you feel good when on the road!
